T2 Loses Over 2,700 Subscribers in Three Months, NCC Data Shows
According to the Commission’s Mobile Number Portability (MNP) statistics, approximately 2,725 subscribers left T2, while only 61 new users joined during the same period, indicating a sharp net outflow for the telecom operator.
New data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has revealed that T2 experienced a significant drop in its subscriber base over the period from August to October 2025. According to the Commission’s Mobile Number Portability (MNP) statistics, approximately 2,725 subscribers left T2, while only 61 new users joined during the same period, indicating a sharp net outflow for the telecom operator.
This development comes against the backdrop of the NCC’s regulatory mandate under Section 89, Subsection 3(d) of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003 (NCA 2003), which requires the Commission to monitor the telecommunications industry, provide statistical analyses, and identify trends affecting services, tariffs, operators, and subscribers, with the aim of determining areas where regulatory intervention may be needed.
T2’s dwindling subscriber numbers are reflected in its current market share, which stands at 1.80% of total GSM subscribers in Nigeria as of November 2025. The operator lags behind major competitors such as MTN (51.89%), Airtel (33.78%), and Globacom (12.54%).
The NCC notes that telecommunications operators are obligated to regularly provide subscriber data, which is analyzed and published in the Commission’s monthly and annual reports. These reports are the basis for tracking industry performance, including subscriber migration between operators.
Subscribers leaving T2 may reflect a range of factors, including service quality, network coverage, pricing, or competitive promotions from other operators. Analysts say such trends are important indicators for regulators and industry stakeholders to evaluate the competitive landscape of the Nigerian telecom sector.
For detailed industry statistics, including subscriber counts, teledensity, broadband penetration, and porting activities, the NCC regularly publishes interactive reports, drawing on data submitted by operators as at the reporting period cut-off.
