Niger Advances Digital Education with New Library in Tillabéry Region

This initiative is part of a broader plan to establish 89 digital libraries across eight regions, aimed at improving academic performance, training and supporting teachers, and familiarizing students with digital technologies.

On Monday, January 12, 2026, Karey Gorou Primary School in Bitinkodji Rural Municipality, Kollo Department, Tillabéry Region, hosted the traditional weekly color mounting ceremony, marking the launch of an exceptional school morning. The event was attended by Dr. Élisabeth Sherif, Minister of National Education, Literacy and Language Promotion, alongside the Secretary General of Tillabéry Governorate, central and regional Ministry executives, and social partners. Students welcomed the delegation with the National Anthem and the Confederate, signaling the start of the day’s activities.

As part of the government’s push to modernize Niger’s educational system, the Ministry inaugurated a fully equipped digital library at Karey Gorou Primary School, offering students and teachers access to modern digital learning tools. This initiative is part of a broader plan to establish 89 digital libraries across eight regions, aimed at improving academic performance, training and supporting teachers, and familiarizing students with digital technologies.

During her visit, Minister Sherif engaged with students and teachers, offering guidance and encouragement, and toured the school garden, symbolizing a healthy and stimulating learning environment. The initiative reflects the directives of President Abdourhamane Tiani, emphasizing digital modernization as a key pillar of Niger’s educational development strategy.
