Zambia Invests USD 4.76 Million in JICA-Backed STEM Laboratories for Secondary Schools
The initiative aims to build strong foundations in STEM subjects, equipping learners with the skills needed to drive innovation, technological advancement, and national development in the future.
The Zambian Minister of Education, Hon. Douglas Syakalima, has toured the ongoing construction of a modern science laboratory at David Kaunda Secondary School, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in the country.
The project is being implemented with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as part of a broader investment to enhance learning infrastructure. Zambia has committed USD 4.76 million toward the construction of state-of-the-art science laboratories at three secondary schools: David Kaunda Secondary School in Lusaka, Kapiri Girls Secondary School in Kapiri Mposhi, and Chiwala Boys Secondary School in Masaiti.
Once completed, the new laboratories are expected to significantly improve the quality of science education by providing students with access to modern equipment and practical learning environments.
