NITDA Empowers Persons with Disabilities with Digital Skills, Advancing Inclusive Tech in Nigeria
The initiative was conducted in partnership with IFA and SIMBED, aiming to ensure that all Nigerians—regardless of ability—can participate meaningfully in the digital economy.
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has successfully trained a new cohort of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in essential digital skills, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to inclusive digital development. The initiative was conducted in partnership with IFA and SIMBED, aiming to ensure that all Nigerians, regardless of ability, can participate meaningfully in the digital economy.
Speaking on behalf of NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa, Mr. Oladejo Olawunmi, Director of Special Duties, emphasized that PwDs are not passive recipients of charity but active contributors to Nigeria’s digital future. He highlighted that providing the right digital tools transforms learners into entrepreneurs, innovators, and leaders who can drive productivity across sectors.
The training aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes inclusivity in national development. Mr. Olawunmi noted that intentional and accessible digital empowerment allows PwDs not only to participate but to excel in technology-driven sectors.
Congratulating the participants, the Director described them as “champions and ambassadors of digital inclusion”, encouraging them to apply their skills and share knowledge within their communities.
As these trained PwDs return to their communities as “Ambassadors of Inclusion,” the initiative highlights Nigeria’s vision of a tech economy where everyone, regardless of ability, can innovate and lead.
This milestone marks another step toward bridging digital divides and ensuring a truly inclusive digital ecosystem in Nigeria.
