The initiative aims to digitalize higher education, enhancing access to quality learning and preparing young people for the evolving job market.

Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Madagascar’s Ministry of Development of Organized Computing, the Postal and Telecommunications (MNDPT ) and four partner ministries officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement for the UNIPOD project at the Primatora Mahazoarivo. The initiative aims to digitalize higher education, enhancing access to quality learning and preparing young people for the evolving job market.

The MNDPT, as the country’s lead digital authority, will play a central role in the project. Its responsibilities include:

  • Digital Integration in Universities: Installing high-speed internet across all universities and connecting them to the national digital platform.
  • Research and Innovation: Supporting research in Big Data and Artificial Intelligence by providing access to data centers.
  • Digital Business Support: Creating a conducive environment for university-based startups, simplifying administrative procedures, and offering technical assistance.
  • Competence Valuation: Implementing digital competence frameworks aligned with local and international standards to meet private sector needs.

The UNIPOD project involves collaboration with multiple ministries, including the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry of Industry Development and Private Sector Development, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy.

Through this long-term initiative, the Malagasy government aims to empower youth as active contributors to a strong and independent national economy, leveraging digital tools and education to drive sustainable development.
