Ethio Telecom Explores Strategic Collaboration with Somcable to Boost Africa’s Digital Connectivity

The partnership reflects Ethio Telecom’s ongoing efforts to leverage its infrastructure and technical expertise to drive innovation and position itself as a leader in the regional and global digital markets.

Ethio Telecom  has taken steps to strengthen its international presence through strategic engagement with Somcable,  a leading telecommunications provider. CEO Frehiwot Tamru hosted a high-level meeting with Somcable’s Chairman, Mohamed Said Guedi, and CEO, Mohammed Ibrahim Ahmed, to explore partnership opportunities in digital and telecom services, with a particular focus on cross-border collaboration.

The discussions emphasized expanding into overseas markets by leveraging advanced digital and communication solutions, aligned with Ethio Telecom’s strategic vision. During the meeting, CEO Tamru highlighted the company’s transformation journey, past achievements, and future strategic priorities, showcasing Ethio Telecom’s extensive infrastructure and institutional capabilities.

As part of its “Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028” strategy, Ethio Telecom underscored its commitment to extending digital services beyond Ethiopia’s borders. Tamru emphasized that collaboration is key to unlocking growth, enabling the companies to share expertise and infrastructure while promoting digital empowerment across Africa.

The Somcable delegation expressed strong support for the partnership. Chairman Mohamed Said Guedi described the alliance as a source of pride, highlighting the shared vision for Africa’s digital future, while CEO Mohammed Ibrahim Ahmed framed the collaboration as a commitment to harness technology to unlock human potential and foster greater connectivity across the continent.

Both companies agreed to expand their existing business relationship, including enhancing the current international internet capacity lease agreement and exploring additional areas for strategic collaboration. The partnership reflects Ethio Telecom’s ongoing efforts to leverage its infrastructure and technical expertise to drive innovation and position itself as a leader in the regional and global digital markets.
