The project aims to create a self-sustaining ecosystem that integrates education, entrepreneurship, investment, and policy development, addressing gaps in the current startup landscape and reinforcing Nigeria’s entrepreneurial environment.

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA)  of Nigeria has reinforced its commitment to youth and MSME empowerment through digital innovation by hosting a high-level engagement with international partners, including the KOICA Nigeria Office,  Korean experts, and academic leaders. The meeting focused on ongoing collaborations aimed at advancing Nigeria’s digital economy and supporting entrepreneurial growth.

Dr. Aristotle Onumo, NITDA’s Director of Stakeholder Management and Partnerships, welcomed the delegation and highlighted the critical role of Nigerian youth—who account for nearly 40% of the population—in the country’s startup ecosystem, despite prevailing high unemployment. He noted that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed to leverage this potential, with plans to establish a leading academic hub dedicated to youth-driven innovation.

During the session, the visiting delegation introduced a multidisciplinary team spearheading the “PMC Service for Strengthening Youth and MSMEs through the establishment of a Start-Up Digital Innovation Academy.” The project aims to create a self-sustaining ecosystem that integrates education, entrepreneurship, investment, and policy development, addressing gaps in the current startup landscape and reinforcing Nigeria’s entrepreneurial environment.

Senior representatives emphasised NITDA’s role in advancing e-government and digital initiatives, noting that the collaboration will not only build capacity for existing startups but also support emerging innovators. Insights generated from the program are expected to inform MSME capacity-building models aligned with NITDA’s broader ecosystem.

The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, prioritising youth empowerment, digital inclusion, and economic diversification. By fostering strong global partnerships and providing access to critical tools, the program positions Nigerian youth and MSMEs as active innovators and leaders, driving national productivity, competitiveness, and sustainable development.
