Cenfri Partners Central Bank of Lesotho on New National Payments Strategy

The discussions aimed to ensure the strategy addresses key challenges in Lesotho’s financial system while meeting the needs of consumers, businesses, service providers, and public institutions.

Financial sector development consultancy Cenfri  is partnering with the Central Bank of Lesotho (CBL)  to develop the country’s next National Payments Strategy (NPS).

As part of the process, Cenfri representatives Antonia Esser, Barry Cooper, and Maqhobosheane Regina Mohlerepe recently visited Lesotho to facilitate a stakeholder workshop and conduct key informant interviews. The engagements involved CBL departments, financial service providers, and other industry stakeholders, focusing on reviewing and refining draft strategic pillars for the payments strategy.

The discussions aimed to ensure the strategy addresses key challenges in Lesotho’s financial system while meeting the needs of consumers, businesses, service providers, and public institutions.

During the engagements, CBL Governor Dr. Emmanuel Maluke Letete reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment—particularly within its National Payments Systems Department—to innovation and safeguarding the integrity of the national payments system.

Cenfri expressed appreciation to workshop participants and CBL team members, including Motheo Lechesa, Nelson Sello, Mothetsi Sekoati, and Relebohile Tlali, for their support in organizing the consultations.
