Vodafone Egypt Secures Additional 1,800MHz Spectrum in Multi-Year MCIT Programme
This strategic acquisition positions Vodafone Egypt to strengthen its network infrastructure and continue delivering improved services to its customers in a rapidly growing digital market.
Vodafone Group Plc has announced that its African subsidiary, Vodacom Group Limited , confirmed Vodafone Egypt’s participation in a multi-year investment programme led by Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA). The programme covers spectrum allocations in the 1,800MHz and 3,500MHz bands, as well as the renewal of the 2,600MHz band.
In the initial phase of the programme, Vodafone Egypt has secured 2 x 10MHz of 1,800MHz spectrum. The payment for this spectrum will be spread over four annual installments, beginning with US$100 million (€84 million) in FY26. This acquisition is expected to enhance data connectivity by providing additional capacity to meet the growing demand for reliable and high-quality voice and data services across the country.
The programme’s next phase is scheduled to start in FY28 and conclude by FY32, during which the MCIT and NTRA will allocate 3,500MHz spectrum and renew the existing 2,600MHz spectrum.
Vodafone Egypt’s spectrum holdings before and after the recent acquisition are as follows:
- 900MHz: 2 x 12.5MHz (2039) → no change
- 1,800MHz: 2 x 10MHz (2039) → purchased 2 x 10MHz → post-purchase 2 x 20MHz (2039)
- 2,100MHz: 2 x 20MHz (2039) → no change
- 2,600MHz: 1 x 40MHz (2032) → no change
This strategic acquisition positions Vodafone Egypt to strengthen its network infrastructure and continue delivering improved services to its customers in a rapidly growing digital market.
