Mozambique Launches 1st National Conference on Digital Transformation
UNDP Mozambique participated in the landmark event, reaffirming its long-standing partnership with the Government to accelerate digital transformation, expand opportunities, strengthen governance, and improve public service delivery for all citizens.
The Government of Mozambique, through the Ministry of Communications and Digital Transformation, hosted the 1st National Conference on Digital Transformation on 11–12 February 2026 at the Montebelo Indy Maputo Congress Hotel. The event, themed “Towards a Modern, Digital and Citizen-Centred State,” brought together public officials, private-sector actors, academia, civil society, and development partners to chart a decisive path toward a digitally enabled government.

The conference highlighted key priorities central to Mozambique’s digital ambitions, including the development of digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity and data protection, digital identity and interoperability, responsible use of AI, legal and policy frameworks for innovation, and capacity-building with youth engagement. These efforts aim to modernize public services, enhance transparency, and ensure no citizen is left behind in the country’s digital transition.
Presided over by H.E. Daniel Francisco Chapo, President of the Republic, the conference featured flagship initiatives such as the rollout of a new electronic visa platform designed to improve service access, mobility, and ease of doing business. UNDP continues to provide technical support, policy guidance, and investment in digital public services and infrastructure to help realize these objectives.
Concrete outcomes of the conference include a shared vision document titled “Our Commitment to Digital Transformation,” strengthened strategic partnerships, prioritization of national digital projects, and heightened public awareness of the value of digitalization.
