Ethio telecom outlined its ambition to expand beyond the domestic market and position itself as a regional digital infrastructure and services provider.

Ethio telecom  has entered discussions with Africa Finance Corporation (AFC)  to explore a strategic financing partnership aimed at supporting the implementation of its Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028 strategy and accelerating digital transformation across Africa.

The engagement brought together Ethio telecom Chief Executive Officer Frehiwot Tamru and AFC President and CEO Samaila Zubairu for high-level discussions focused on potential funding mechanisms to enable large-scale digital and telecommunications investments.

During the meeting, Ethio telecom highlighted its institutional resilience and execution capacity, demonstrated through the successful delivery of its BRIDGE and LEAD transformation programs. The company reaffirmed its role in advancing Ethiopia’s Digital Ethiopia 2025 agenda and confirmed that its newly launched Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028 strategy is fully aligned with the Digital Ethiopia 2030 roadmap.

Ethio telecom outlined its ambition to expand beyond the domestic market and position itself as a regional digital infrastructure and services provider. The company emphasized that achieving this objective will require strong financing partnerships to support infrastructure expansion, AI-enabled platforms, hyperscale cloud ecosystems, and cross-border connectivity.

The discussions also underscored the importance of robust, secure, and resilient telecom and digital infrastructure as a critical foundation for inclusive growth across Africa, particularly as artificial intelligence adoption accelerates.

AFC, for its part, acknowledged Ethio telecom’s performance trajectory and institutional strength, and expressed interest in supporting the company’s next phase of growth. The potential partnership aligns with AFC’s mandate to invest in high-impact infrastructure platforms that drive sustainable economic development across the continent.
