The Government of Lesotho has earmarked $24 million (M386.4 million) in its 2026/27 National Budget to advance digital transformation and improve nationwide connectivity. This investment is part of a broader strategy to strengthen infrastructure, promote economic growth, and position Lesotho as a competitive participant in regional and global markets.
The allocation will support the expansion of Information, Communications, and Technology (ICT) services, enhancing access to reliable broadband and digital platforms for both urban and rural communities. The initiative aims to bridge the digital divide, foster innovation, and enable citizens and businesses to leverage modern communication tools for education, commerce, and government services.
Finance Minister Dr. Retšelisitsoe Matlanyane emphasized that this ICT investment is integral to the government’s broader development plan, which prioritizes inclusive growth, economic diversification, and long-term resilience. By enhancing digital infrastructure, Lesotho seeks to improve connectivity, empower enterprises, and strengthen the country’s participation in the digital economy.
The $24 million allocation complements other strategic budget investments in agriculture, health, human capital, and sports, reflecting the government’s commitment to holistic development and sustainable growth.
