The $500 million funding will prioritize infrastructure and connectivity, linking major cities with high-speed networks to reduce internet costs and improve service quality, and e-governance and skills development, including digitalization of public services and dematerialization of civil records to simplify administrative processes.

The Ministry of the Digital Economy, led by Minister Augustin Kibassa Maliba, held a high-level working session with a delegation from the World Bank  and the French Development Agency (AFD)  to accelerate the operationalization of a $500 million digital transformation initiative in the DRC.

The discussions focused on concrete actions to make digital technology a key driver of economic growth, including migration and security of state data to strengthen digital sovereignty, establishing a government cybersecurity center to protect strategic infrastructure, and enhancing connectivity across ministries for more efficient administration.

Plans were also announced for an “Artificial Intelligence Sphere” to equip Congolese students with advanced technological skills, positioning the DRC as an active player in digital innovation across Africa.

These initiatives position digital technology as a central lever for modernization and economic transformation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
