Uganda Signs MoU to Establish Community ICT Innovation Hub in Mbale
The agreement reflects the government’s commitment to expanding digital inclusion and building future-ready skills across the country.
The Ministry of ICT & National Guidance has signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with Spotlight on Africa and Algorithmic Partners, a UK-based organization, in a move aimed at accelerating Uganda’s digital transformation agenda. The agreement reflects the government’s commitment to expanding digital inclusion and building future-ready skills across the country.
Central to the partnership is the establishment of a community-focused ICT Innovation Hub in Mbale. The hub is designed to bridge the digital divide by equipping young people and local communities with practical digital skills, supporting innovation, and creating pathways to employment and entrepreneurship. It is expected to serve as a catalyst for grassroots innovation while strengthening local participation in the digital economy.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Aminah Zawedde, noted that the collaboration goes beyond a single innovation hub. She emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader vision to establish multiple ICT hubs across Uganda, working in partnership with the private sector and international partners to expand access to digital opportunities nationwide.
Through this collaboration, the Ministry aims to empower young Ugandans with relevant digital skills, foster innovation at the community level, and support inclusive economic growth as Uganda advances its national digital transformation goals.
