M-PESA Ethiopia Signs MoU with Dire Dawa University to Boost Digital Innovation

The agreement covers key areas, including digital salary payments and staff financial services, university fees and campus service collections, student financing with digital disbursement and repayment, as well as campus onboarding and merchant enablement to support a cashless ecosystem.

M-PESA Ethiopia  has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dire Dawa University , marking a strategic partnership aimed at advancing digital innovation and strengthening university–industry collaboration.

The agreement covers key areas, including digital salary payments and staff financial services, university fees and campus service collections, student financing with digital disbursement and repayment, as well as campus onboarding and merchant enablement to support a cashless ecosystem. Additionally, the partnership will facilitate internships, research, training, and knowledge exchange programs between the university and M-PESA Ethiopia.

During the visit, Elsa Muzzolini also toured local markets to observe how merchants are leveraging M-PESA for agency banking services, highlighting the company’s ongoing commitment to community empowerment and promoting everyday digital financial inclusion.
