It enables remote diagnosis, configuration, and recovery while protecting IT systems from unverified firmware and software.

Vertiv,  a global leader in critical digital infrastructure, has introduced the Vertiv™ Avocent® MergePoint Unity™ 2, a next-generation keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) switch platform designed for secure and centralized management of IT devices. The solution supports enterprise data centers, distributed edge sites, and branch office environments, helping operators simplify daily operations, respond quickly to issues, and maintain system availability. It enables remote diagnosis, configuration, and recovery while protecting IT systems from unverified firmware and software.

“As organizations distribute workloads across multiple locations, the complexity of infrastructure management grows accordingly.

Ramesh Menon, Vice President of IT systems solutions, Vertiv

He noted that the new platform provides a centralized control point with enterprise-grade security, allowing IT teams to maintain visibility and responsiveness regardless of where their infrastructure resides.

The KVM switch meets FIPS 140-3 cryptographic standards, offering verified encryption suitable for government and enterprise environments. It includes advanced security features such as smart card and Common Access Card (CAC) authentication, along with granular user-permission controls. These capabilities allow IT teams to securely manage infrastructure through a single interface without relying on multiple tools or frequent site visits.

The platform also incorporates built-in Virtual Media functionality, enabling users to remotely mount drives for software and application installations, reducing downtime and streamlining updates. Remote access to UEFI and BIOS firmware interfaces supports critical system updates and hardware troubleshooting, further enhancing operational resilience. Both local and remote users benefit from an intuitive browser-based interface, while local hotkey support enables fast navigation and efficient task execution at the rack level.

Designed with space efficiency in mind, the compact KVM switch fits within a single rack unit when paired with the Vertiv™ Avocent® Local Rack Access (LRA) Console. It can be managed via a built-in web interface for standalone deployments or integrated with the Vertiv™ Avocent® MP1000 Management Platform and the Vertiv™ Avocent® DSView™ Solution, enabling centralized, enterprise-wide control across distributed IT environments.
