Immigration Department and ICTAM Join Forces to Drive Digital Transformation in Malawi
The partnership is aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and service delivery across the Department’s operations.
The Malawi Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services has entered into a strategic partnership with the Information Communication Technology Association of Malawi (ICTAM) to enhance the delivery of critical national services through technology-driven collaboration. The partnership is focused on improving efficiency, transparency, and overall service delivery across the Department’s operations.
The development follows a meeting held on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, between Immigration management and ICTAM officials. The engagement centered on strengthening collaboration, deepening understanding of the Department’s internal operations, and identifying areas where technology can further enhance service delivery.
Director General of Immigration Dennis Chipao reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to digital transformation and improved service delivery through partnerships with both local and international stakeholders. He highlighted the importance of sustainable, locally driven initiatives in advancing operational improvements and strengthening national service systems.
ICTAM President Clarence Gama commended the Immigration Department’s leadership for initiating the discussions and emphasized the importance of compliant, technology-driven systems. He noted that the Department’s demonstrated commitment reflects a strong foundation for effective collaboration.
The Malawi Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services continues to work with key partners including the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), INTERPOL, and the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) to enhance national security, support socio-economic development, improve processes, and decentralize services.
As part of its modernization agenda, the Department has established regional data collection centres across all four Regional Immigration Offices—North, Centre, East, and South—as well as at Immigration Headquarters. Plans are at an advanced stage to expand the rollout of additional data collection centres in the districts of Thyolo, Chikwawa, Salima, Kasungu, Mzimba, and Karonga.
