SMART Zambia and Gates Foundation Hold Talks on Digital Public Infrastructure Collaboration

The engagement focused on strengthening institutional ties and identifying areas of collaboration in digital innovation and public service delivery.

SMART Zambia Institute  has opened discussions with the Gates Foundation  to explore potential technology partnerships aimed at accelerating Zambia’s digital transformation agenda.

The talks took place in Lusaka on February 25, 2026, during a meeting between a Gates Foundation delegation and Mr Percy Chinyama, National Coordinator of the SMART Zambia Institute. The engagement focused on strengthening institutional ties and identifying areas of collaboration in digital innovation and public service delivery.

The Gates Foundation delegation was led by Kanwaljit Singh, Deputy Director for Digital Public Infrastructure, and included Matshidiso Masire, Senior Advocacy Officer, as well as Nanjira Sambuli, Deputy Director for Southern Africa.

Discussions centred on aligning strategies to advance Zambia’s digitalisation drive, enhance the efficiency of government services through technology, and support the nationwide rollout of digital solutions. Emphasis was placed on the role of innovation, strategic partnerships, and investment in strengthening digital public infrastructure.

Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to leveraging technology as a catalyst for inclusive national development, positioning digital transformation as a key driver of improved service delivery and sustainable growth in Zambia.
