Gabonese Delegation Visits Washington to Advance AI Data Center and Power Development
The trip aims to advance plans for an AI-powered data center in Libreville and encourage U.S. investment in expanded power generation capacity.
U.S. technology leader Cybastion is coordinating a three-day Washington visit from March 8–11 for a high-level delegation from the Republic of Gabon. The trip aims to advance plans for an AI-powered data center in Libreville and encourage U.S. investment in expanded power generation capacity.
The delegation is led by H.E. Philippe Tonangoye, Minister of Universal Access to Water and Energy, and includes H.E. Clotaire Kondja, Minister of Petroleum and Gas, alongside other senior government officials. During the visit, the delegation engaged in meetings with U.S. private sector leaders and senior government officials to discuss priority areas for collaboration on energy and digital infrastructure.
On March 10, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-Africa Business Center hosted a ministerial business roundtable where Gabonese officials highlighted opportunities for U.S. companies to contribute technical expertise, financing solutions, and private investment toward the development of an additional 200MW of power generation capacity. Libreville faces an estimated 220MW power deficit, and the additional capacity is crucial to sustain operations for the AI data center.
“Reliable power is the foundation of digital resilience. A strong power supply is essential to powering data centers, digital services, and broader private-sector growth.”
– Dr. Thierry Wandji, CEO, Cybastion
Sarah Trotman, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Central Africa at the U.S. Department of State, emphasized the importance of strengthening U.S.–Gabon economic ties and boosting U.S. investment in the country during the roundtable.
The delegation’s high-level meetings are part of Cybastion’s ongoing partnership with the Government of Gabon to establish a secure, resilient digital ecosystem anchored by the AI-powered data center. The initiative also supports digital workforce development through Africa DigiEmpower, a collaboration between Cybastion and the Cisco Networking Academy.
This visit highlights Gabon’s efforts to expand digital infrastructure and energy capacity while creating opportunities for U.S. investment in Africa’s growing technology sector.
