Lagos Police Deploy CCTV Surveillance Centre for Intelligence-Led Policing
The centre is expected to serve as Control Room 5 within the state’s broader security architecture and will operate on a 24-hour basis.
The Lagos State Police Command has announced a significant advancement in technology-driven policing with the activation of a new CCTV Surveillance Centre aimed at strengthening security across Lagos Island and surrounding areas.
The facility, commissioned under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh, was activated on 14 January 2026. It is designed to provide real-time monitoring of strategic locations, including the Third Mainland Bridge, nearby waterways, and key points across the island, enabling proactive crime prevention and enhanced public safety.
According to the Command, the surveillance centre was built and fully equipped by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Ministry of Works, under the supervision of Minister Dave Umahi. The centre is expected to serve as Control Room 5 within the state’s broader security architecture and will operate on a 24-hour basis.
The facility is staffed by trained officers who will monitor live feeds and coordinate rapid, intelligence-led responses to security incidents across Lagos Island and its environs. Authorities say this will significantly improve situational awareness and response times for security agencies.
In addition, two operational vehicles were officially handed over to the command on 16 January 2026 to further support field operations and enhance mobility in responding to incidents.
The Lagos State Police Command noted that the initiative represents a major step forward in modern policing, leveraging surveillance technology to strengthen crime prevention, protect lives, and safeguard critical infrastructure across the state.
