The Ministry of ICT and Innovation in Rwanda has held discussions with device importers as part of preparations for the next phase of the country’s digital transition, with a focus on gradually phasing out 2G and 3G devices.
The meeting, led by Minister Paula Ingabire, brought together key industry stakeholders to deliberate on how the transition can be implemented in a practical and inclusive manner. The engagement aimed to ensure that both industry players and citizens are adequately prepared for the shift in mobile technology standards.

Officials noted that the phase-out of older generation networks is part of broader efforts to strengthen Rwanda’s digital ecosystem, improve service quality, and accelerate the adoption of more efficient and future-ready technologies across the country.
