The relaunch is seen as a critical milestone in safeguarding national telecommunications assets and enhancing service delivery across the country.

The Government of Sierra Leone has announced the relaunch of Sierratel through a new private sector partnership, signaling a major step toward revitalizing the country’s telecommunications industry. The development was confirmed by the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation following a high-level meeting involving Sierratel staff and the Ministry of Employment.

According to the Minister, the government has reached an agreement to restore and reposition Sierratel under a new operating model aimed at improving efficiency and long-term sustainability. As part of the arrangement, an advance payment of $2 million will be made to begin settling the company’s staff liabilities, which total approximately $6.3 million. This move is expected to address longstanding financial obligations while stabilizing the workforce.

The relaunch is seen as a critical milestone in safeguarding national telecommunications assets and enhancing service delivery across the country. By bringing in private sector participation, the government aims to strengthen operational capacity, drive innovation, and ensure the sector’s future growth.

Officials say the initiative marks the beginning of a new era for Sierra Leone’s telecommunications landscape, with renewed focus on sustainability, improved services, and expanded access for citizens.
