The partnership combines Safaricom’s extensive fibre infrastructure and deep understanding of local customer needs with Huawei’s globally proven FTTR solutions, including advanced optical terminals, Wi-Fi 6/6+ capabilities, and AI-driven network management.

Safaricom,  in partnership with Huawei,  has announced the launch of Kenya’s first Fibre to the Room (FTTR) solution marking a major leap in home connectivity and setting a new benchmark for digital living.

As Kenyan households become increasingly connected with multiple devices and high bandwidth applications running simultaneously, traditional broadband setups are no longer sufficient to meet evolving user demands. Safaricom’s new solution addresses this challenge by extending Fibre connectivity into every room of the home, delivering uninterrupted, ultra-fast, and low latency internet throughout.

Unlike conventional Fibre to the Home which relies on a single router for Wi Fi distribution, this new technology transforms the entire home into a high-performance Fibre network. Each room is equipped with an optical access point, ensuring consistent speeds, near zero latency, and seamless coverage without dead zones or signal loss.

“Today’s homes demand more than just connectivity; they require an always on digital ecosystem. Through our partnership with Huawei, we are delivering a truly immersive connected home experience that meets the evolving needs of modern households.”

Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom PLC

FTTR is designed to support the growing demands of today’s connected lifestyles, including ultra-high definition 4K and 8K streaming, online gaming and immersive augmented and virtual reality (AR & VR) experiences, remote work and high-quality video conferencing, smart home devices such as TVs, security systems, and IoT ecosystems and cloud storage and automation platforms.

Key Features of Safaricom FTTR include Whole-Home Coverage which ensures consistent gigabit speeds in every room, ultra-Low Latency which is ideal for real-time applications like gaming and video calls, intelligent Optimization, an AI-powered network monitoring and self-adjustment, future-Ready Infrastructure with seamless integration with smart home technologies and premium experience withe enhanced installation, reliability, and everyday performance.

The introduction of FTTR positions Safaricom as the first provider in Kenya to offer an end-to-end fibre connectivity solution within the home, reinforcing its leadership in next-generation broadband and digital lifestyle innovation. By eliminating the limitations of Wi-Fi-only networks, FTTR ensures a consistent, studio-grade connectivity experience across every corner of the home.

The partnership combines Safaricom’s extensive fibre infrastructure and deep understanding of local customer needs with Huawei’s globally proven FTTR solutions, including advanced optical terminals, Wi-Fi 6/6+ capabilities, and AI-driven network management. With FTTR, Safaricom is not only redefining home broadband but also accelerating the adoption of smart homes in Kenya. The solution lays a strong foundation for future innovations in home automation, energy management, security, and entertainment.
