Kenya and South Korea Explore Strategic Partnership to Advance Data Innovation and Digital Transformation

May 7, 2026
2 min read

According to Tanui, discussions centered on learning from South Korea’s advanced experience in standardized data management and the use of data-driven systems to improve innovation, efficiency, and public service delivery.

John Kipchumba Tanui has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening digital cooperation with South Korea following a high-level engagement with representatives from K-Data, a public institution operating under South Korea’s Ministry of ICT . The meeting focused on expanding collaboration in data innovation, digital transformation, and capacity building as Kenya continues to modernize its digital infrastructure.

According to Tanui, discussions centered on learning from South Korea’s advanced experience in standardized data management and the use of data-driven systems to improve innovation, efficiency, and public service delivery. The engagement highlighted the importance of developing strong frameworks that can support effective data utilization across government and industry.

K-Data also presented its innovative “KEDG” platform, a data-driven problem-solving system designed to help organizations tackle complex challenges through technology and analytics. The platform demonstrates how digital tools can be used to improve decision-making and create practical solutions in both public and private sectors.

The two sides further explored the possibility of formalizing cooperation through a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The partnership is expected to support knowledge exchange, strengthen Kenya’s data value chain, and advance key digital initiatives, potentially with support from the World Bank.

Tanui emphasized that Kenya remains focused on building strategic international partnerships that will accelerate the country’s digital transformation agenda. He noted that enhancing the national data ecosystem is critical to promoting inclusive growth, innovation, and improved service delivery across the country.
