The partnership was unveiled during National Science Week, where e-Bus Xpress was officially launched as part of efforts to modernise public transport and promote greener mobility in the country.

MTN Uganda  and MTN MoMo  have partnered with e-Bus Xpress  to support Uganda’s shift toward a more connected, cashless, and eco-friendly public transport system.

The partnership was unveiled during National Science Week, where e-Bus Xpress was officially launched as part of efforts to modernise public transport and promote greener mobility in the country.

Under the agreement, MTN Uganda will act as the official payments partner through its mobile money service, MTN MoMo. Passengers will be able to pay for bus fares cashlessly by dialing 16522#, making commuting more convenient and reducing reliance on cash transactions.

In addition to payments, MTN Uganda will also provide onboard Wi-Fi connectivity for passengers using the electric buses. This is aimed at helping commuters stay connected, work, or access the internet during their journeys.

Speaking at the launch, Paul J. Luyima said MTN’s role goes beyond payments, focusing on enabling the wider digital ecosystem around the e-bus service. He noted that connectivity will allow passengers to remain productive while travelling.

The initiative reflects growing efforts in Uganda to combine digital payments, internet connectivity, and sustainable transport solutions to improve urban mobility. MTN Uganda says the partnership aligns with its broader goal of supporting greener transport while enhancing customer experience through technology.

MTN also confirmed it will continue collaborating with partners such as KMC and e-Bus Xpress to expand connected transport services across the country.
