OpenAI Unveils New Deployment Company Backed by $4 Billion Investment
The initiative aims to accelerate enterprise AI adoption by embedding specialized engineers directly within companies to redesign workflows, improve operations, and integrate AI into day-to-day business processes.
OpenAI has announced the launch of the OpenAI Deployment Company, a new business unit designed to help organizations build and deploy reliable artificial intelligence systems across critical business operations. The initiative aims to accelerate enterprise AI adoption by embedding specialized engineers directly within companies to redesign workflows, improve operations, and integrate AI into day-to-day business processes.
The new company will focus on deploying what OpenAI calls Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs), specialists in frontier AI deployment who will work closely with business leaders, operators, and frontline teams. Their role will include identifying high-impact AI opportunities, redesigning organizational infrastructure around AI capabilities, and building scalable systems that can deliver measurable operational improvements.
As part of the launch, OpenAI also announced plans to acquire Tomoro, an applied AI consulting and engineering company known for helping enterprises turn AI into operational advantages. The acquisition is expected to add around 150 experienced Forward Deployed Engineers and deployment specialists to the OpenAI Deployment Company once completed. Tomoro has previously worked with companies including Tesco, Virgin Atlantic, and Supercell on mission-critical AI systems.
The OpenAI Deployment Company is being launched in partnership with 19 global investment firms, consultancies, and system integrators. The partnership is led by TPG, with Advent, Bain Capital, and Brookfield serving as co-lead founding partners. Other founding partners include Goldman Sachs, SoftBank Corp., and Warburg Pincus.
The venture also includes support from consulting and systems integration firms such as Bain & Company, Capgemini, and McKinsey & Company. OpenAI said the Deployment Company will collaborate with its Frontier Alliance partners and broader industry ecosystem to drive AI adoption and organizational transformation globally.
OpenAI stated that the new business unit will launch with more than $4 billion in initial investment. The funding will be used to scale operations and acquire additional firms that can support OpenAI’s mission of expanding the safe and effective deployment of artificial intelligence technologies.
According to OpenAI, the company was created in response to growing demand from enterprises seeking to integrate AI into real-world operations. While more than one million businesses already use OpenAI products and APIs, the company said the next phase of enterprise AI growth will depend on how effectively organizations can deploy AI into critical workflows and operational systems.
The OpenAI Deployment Company will operate as a standalone business unit while remaining majority-owned and controlled by OpenAI. This structure is intended to give customers access to both OpenAI’s latest frontier AI capabilities and the operational expertise needed to implement them at scale. OpenAI said the deployment teams will help organizations move from identifying AI opportunities to building fully operational production systems connected to company data, tools, controls, and business processes.
The acquisition of Tomoro remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, with the transaction expected to close in the coming months.
