Zimbabwe Takes Step Toward Local Technology Production with Avantis Laptop Launch
The launch forms part of broader efforts to position Zimbabwe as a producer of technology products rather than solely a consumer market.
Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Zimbabwe has announced the launch of the locally assembled Avantis Parote 1030i laptop, marking a major step in Zimbabwe’s efforts to develop a domestic technology manufacturing industry.
The laptop was unveiled by Avantis Technologies during an event held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Harare on Wednesday. The launch forms part of broader efforts to position Zimbabwe as a producer of technology products rather than solely a consumer market.
Zimbabwe’s Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda A Mavetera described the launch as a milestone for the country’s industrialisation and digital transformation agenda under Vision 2030. The government says the initiative aligns with national plans to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy through innovation, manufacturing and technology-driven growth.
The project is being implemented through collaboration between Avantis Technologies and ZITCO, an associate company of TelOne, whose assembly facilities are being used in the production process. Authorities highlighted the importance of partnerships between government institutions, state-owned enterprises, private companies and innovators in strengthening the country’s technology ecosystem.
The launch also reflects Zimbabwe’s ambitions to increase local participation in global technology markets and expand domestic manufacturing capabilities. Government officials indicated that policy reforms, investment incentives and procurement opportunities would continue to support local technology innovators and manufacturers.
The Avantis Parote 1030i laptop is expected to contribute to Zimbabwe’s growing digital economy while supporting skills development, local assembly operations and broader industrial growth within the ICT sector.
