Galaxy Backbone Hosts Pan-African Conference on Digital Public Infrastructure in Abuja
As part of the opening day activities, delegates embarked on a guided tour of Galaxy Backbone’s digital infrastructure facilities, providing participating countries with firsthand insight into the organisation’s capabilities and the role robust infrastructure can play in enabling Digital Public Infrastructure not only in Nigeria, but across Africa.
Galaxy Backbone officially commenced the “Building Africa’s Digital Foundations Together” conference in Abuja, convening delegates and digital transformation leaders from 11 African countries to strengthen collaboration around Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), connectivity, cloud services, cybersecurity, digital identity, and inclusive digital growth across the continent.
The high-level gathering, organised in collaboration with Co-Develop, Smart Africa, and MicroSave Consulting, serves as a strategic platform for African nations to exchange ideas, deepen partnerships, and accelerate the development of resilient digital ecosystems that support governance, innovation, and economic growth.
In his opening remarks, the Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju welcomed delegates from across Africa and highlighted the importance of collective action in shaping the continent’s digital future.
He described the gathering as more than a conference, noting that it represents a shared continental commitment to building digital infrastructure that empowers governments, businesses, and citizens alike.
The MD further took participants through the transformation journey of Galaxy Backbone over the years from providing government connectivity services to becoming a strategic enabler of Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda through initiatives such as the 1Government Cloud, GovMail, national connectivity infrastructure, and secure digital platforms supporting public institutions across the country.
He emphasized that Africa’s digital future cannot be built in silos and called for stronger collaboration among African nations in the areas of infrastructure sharing, policy alignment, capacity development, cybersecurity resilience, and innovation.
Also delivering remarks at the event was the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), represented by a Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary, under the OSGF, who reaffirmed the Nigerian government’s commitment to leveraging technology and digital infrastructure to drive inclusive governance, service delivery, and economic development.

The tour showcased a Tier III Datacentre, Security Operations Centre and Network Operations Centre, all of which are critical infrastructure and platforms designed to support secure government communications, cloud adoption, connectivity, and digital service delivery at scale.
The conference continues with technical sessions, strategic dialogues, and collaborative engagements focused on building sustainable digital ecosystems that will position Africa for accelerated growth in the digital economy.
