Nigeria, Morocco and The Gambia Align on Cross-Border Data Protection Enforcement and Knowledge Sharing
The NDPC said the agreements represent a key step toward deeper regional alignment in data protection standards and regulatory collaboration across Africa.
The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with data protection authorities from Morocco and The Gambia to strengthen cross-border cooperation on data governance and privacy enforcement.
The agreements were concluded during the 2026 Network of African Data Protection Authorities (NADPA-RAPDP) Conference and Annual General Meeting held in Abidjan. The NDPC signed the MoUs with the Commission Nationale de contrôle de la protection des Données à caractère Personnel (CNDP) and the Gambia Information Commission. The partnerships are aimed at enhancing mutual legal assistance, information sharing, and knowledge exchange to support more effective enforcement and harmonisation of data protection laws across jurisdictions.
Speaking at the signing, NDPC National Commissioner and CEO Vincent Olatunji highlighted the importance of regulatory cooperation in an increasingly interconnected digital economy. He noted that such agreements are critical to building trust, improving compliance, and strengthening investor confidence across African digital markets.
The MoUs were formally signed by Omar Seghrouchni on behalf of Morocco’s CNDP and Nene MacDouall-Gaye on behalf of The Gambia. The NDPC said the agreements represent a key step toward deeper regional alignment in data protection standards and regulatory collaboration across Africa.
