Once adopted, the National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap 2026-2030 is expected to guide the country's efforts to leverage AI for economic growth, innovation, public service delivery, and digital inclusion, strengthening Burkina Faso's position in Africa's evolving digital landscape.

Burkina Faso has taken a significant step toward shaping its digital future with the validation workshop for its National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Roadmap 2026-2030. Organized by the Ministry of Digital Transition, Postal and Electronic Communications,  the national workshop was held on June 17, 2026, at the Virtual University of Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou.

Opening the workshop on behalf of the Minister of Digital Transition, Secretary-General Dr. Borlli Michel Jonas Some reaffirmed the government’s commitment to harnessing artificial intelligence as a tool tailored to the country’s specific needs and priorities. He emphasized that Burkina Faso’s goal is not merely to follow a global technological trend but to develop AI solutions that contribute directly to national development and the modernization of public services while respecting the country’s values and sovereignty.

According to Dr. Some, the roadmap is designed to provide a clear national vision for artificial intelligence and guide both public and private sector initiatives toward building a responsible, inclusive, and competitive technological ecosystem. The strategy is expected to serve as a framework for the development and deployment of AI technologies across various sectors of the economy.

Dr. Yaya Traoré, Permanent Secretary for Innovation and the Monitoring of Emerging Digital Technologies (SPIVTEN), welcomed the strong participation of stakeholders from government institutions, the private sector, academia, civil society organizations, and technical partners. He described the roadmap as a strategic initiative that will help position Burkina Faso to benefit from emerging technologies while addressing national development challenges.

During the workshop, participants reviewed the draft roadmap with the aim of reaching a consensus on a realistic and actionable framework. The final document is expected to align with the country’s RELANCE Plan 2026-2030 and support the “AI for All” initiative, one of the twelve flagship projects under Burkina Faso’s digital transformation agenda.

Once adopted, the National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap 2026-2030 is expected to guide the country’s efforts to leverage AI for economic growth, innovation, public service delivery, and digital inclusion, strengthening Burkina Faso’s position in Africa’s evolving digital landscape.
