The initiative, unveiled on 16 June 2026, integrates Zamtel Money’s mobile wallet services with ZANACO (Zambia National Commercial Bank)’s extensive POS network, enabling secure and seamless digital payments across the country.

Zambia has taken a significant step toward strengthening financial inclusion and accelerating its digital economy with the launch of the ZANACO–Zamtel Money Point of Sale (POS) payment partnership.

The initiative, unveiled on 16 June 2026, integrates Zamtel Money ’s mobile wallet services with ZANACO  (Zambia National Commercial Bank)’s extensive POS network, enabling secure and seamless digital payments across the country. The partnership is designed to expand access to cashless transactions for both businesses and consumers, supporting the country’s broader shift toward a digitally enabled financial system.

The launch event brought together key stakeholders from government, banking, and telecommunications sectors as part of efforts to promote innovation and deepen financial inclusion. Speaking at the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Technology and Science, Eng. Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu, described the partnership as a practical example of how collaboration between public and private sector players can accelerate Zambia’s digital transformation agenda.

He emphasized that the initiative goes beyond introducing a new payment option, highlighting its role in expanding financial access, promoting innovation, and encouraging greater participation in the formal economy. According to him, the integration of mobile money services with merchant POS systems will particularly benefit small and medium-sized enterprises by reducing reliance on cash and improving transaction efficiency.

ZANACO Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Mukwandi Chibesakunda, said the partnership represents a major milestone in Zambia’s financial services sector. She noted that the integration of Zamtel Money into the bank’s POS infrastructure is aimed at simplifying transactions, improving convenience, and expanding digital payment options for customers nationwide.

On the telecommunications side, Zamtel Money Managing Director, Ms. Chisala Nyondo, said the initiative allows users to make instant and secure payments directly from their mobile wallets at participating POS terminals. She added that the partnership strengthens financial inclusion by ensuring that more citizens, including those in underserved communities, can access reliable and convenient financial services.

Zamtel Money Board Chairperson, Mr. Mwanza, also welcomed the collaboration, noting that it expands the country’s digital payment ecosystem and responds to growing consumer demand for fast, secure, and cashless transaction options.

Government officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting innovation-friendly policies that encourage partnerships such as this one, which are seen as key drivers of economic growth, digital adoption, and improved service delivery across Zambia.

The launch is expected to enhance transparency, reduce cash dependency, and strengthen Zambia’s position as a growing hub for digital financial services in the region.
