Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto has revealed that he held discussions with Sam Altman on the sidelines of the G7 Leaders’ Summit, focusing on expanding collaboration in artificial intelligence and digital transformation. The talks centered on positioning Kenya as a key player in Africa’s emerging AI ecosystem and strengthening the country’s digital capabilities.
A key proposal discussed was the establishment of Nairobi as the home of the first OpenAI Academy initiative in Eastern Africa. The initiative would aim to expand AI education, equip learners and educators with advanced digital skills, and support the development of a new generation of AI talent.
