Airtel Zambia Launches New Community School With Internet-Connected Computer Lab
The introduction of internet-connected computer facilities is also expected to help bridge the digital divide by providing students with access to technology and digital skills that are increasingly important in education and the modern workforce.
Airtel Zambia, with support from the Airtel Africa Foundation, has officially handed over the newly constructed Makole Community School in Solwezi in Zambia’s North-Western Province, expanding access to education and digital learning opportunities in underserved communities.
The handover ceremony was attended by North-Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Luckson Mulumbi, who commended Airtel for investing in educational infrastructure and supporting community development through the initiative.
The Makole Community School project forms part of Airtel Zambia’s School Adoption Programme, which is investing K12 million to support five schools across five districts. The company has now completed and handed over two of the schools under the programme.
The new facility includes a three-classroom block, an ablution facility, a borehole and water storage tank, desks, and a fully equipped computer laboratory with internet connectivity. The project is expected to benefit more than 855 learners by providing a safer, more inclusive, and digitally enabled learning environment.
Airtel Zambia Managing Director Hussam Baday said the investment reflects the company’s belief that education is fundamental to national development. He noted that the initiative specifically targets rural and underserved communities where access to quality educational facilities and digital resources remains limited.
Beyond improving classroom capacity, the project aims to address several challenges facing the school, including overcrowding, limited access to clean water and sanitation, and inadequate digital learning infrastructure.
The introduction of internet-connected computer facilities is also expected to help bridge the digital divide by providing students with access to technology and digital skills that are increasingly important in education and the modern workforce.
Through the School Adoption Programme, Airtel Zambia and the Airtel Africa Foundation continue to invest in education infrastructure and digital inclusion initiatives designed to create new opportunities for learners and support long-term community development.
