Under the agreement, the two organizations will collaborate on initiatives to modernize digital government services and improve the efficiency of public sector institutions.

Smart Africa  has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Austria’s Agency for Economic Cooperation and Development (aed)  to strengthen cooperation on digital transformation, public sector modernization and digital capacity building across Africa.

The agreement was signed by Smart Africa Chief Executive Officer Lacina Koné and aed Chairman Dieter Hampel, marking a new partnership aimed at supporting the continent’s digital development agenda.

Under the agreement, the two organizations will collaborate on initiatives to modernize digital government services and improve the efficiency of public sector institutions. The partnership seeks to accelerate the adoption of digital technologies that can enhance service delivery and strengthen governance across African countries.

A major component of the collaboration focuses on building digital skills and supporting workforce development. The initiative aims to equip individuals and institutions with the capabilities needed to participate effectively in the digital economy.

The partnership will also support the development of trusted digital ecosystems by advancing areas such as digital identity, cybersecurity and data governance. These capabilities are increasingly viewed as essential pillars for secure digital economies and effective digital public services.

In addition, the agreement aims to foster stronger cooperation between African and Austrian institutions, businesses and academic organizations. The collaboration is expected to promote knowledge sharing, innovation and the exchange of expertise between the two regions.

Smart Africa said the partnership aligns with its broader mission of accelerating digital transformation across the continent by promoting digital infrastructure, innovation, skills development and policy frameworks that support inclusive economic growth.

The agreement underscores growing international collaboration to support Africa’s digital ambitions, with both parties seeking to advance secure, inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystems across the continent.
