NjiaPay Launches One-Click Payments Solution to Transform South Africa’s Ecommerce Checkout

The new offering enables merchants to provide a faster checkout experience across multiple payment providers, unlike traditional one-click solutions that are often limited to a single payment service provider.

Payment performance partner NjiaPay  has launched a one-click payments solution for South African merchants, designed to simplify online transactions by allowing consumers to complete purchases without re-entering card details or going through additional authentication steps such as 3-D Secure verification.

The new offering enables merchants to provide a faster checkout experience across multiple payment providers, unlike traditional one-click solutions that are often limited to a single payment service provider.

As a PCI DSS Level 1 compliant company, NjiaPay meets the highest standards for payment card security and securely encrypts and stores customers’ payment details. Following a customer’s first successfully authenticated transaction, the platform creates a payment-provider-agnostic token instead of storing the actual card information.

The token can then be reused for future payments on that specific merchant’s platform, allowing customers to make repeat purchases with a single click while ensuring merchants are not exposed to sensitive card data. Even if a merchant’s systems are compromised, the token cannot be used across other platforms like a traditional card number, reducing potential security risks.

NjiaPay said the solution provides merchants with greater flexibility by reducing dependence on a single payment provider while improving customer conversion rates, delivering a reported 5% to 10% increase in card-on-file payments.

“The first time a customer shops with a merchant, we assign them a unique ID, based on shopper data such as an email address, and securely tokenise the payment details used at checkout. If they successfully authenticate the transaction and consent to the merchant storing those details for future purchases, their saved payment method surfaces when they return. Instead of entering their card details again, they confirm payment with a single click or tap, without needing to reauthenticate.”

The company said the solution is particularly beneficial for ecommerce businesses, subscription services and repeat-purchase merchants, where lengthy checkout processes can lead to lost sales.

NjiaPay highlighted that payment friction remains a major challenge for online retailers, with failed authorisations, 3-D Secure checks, OTP drop-offs, slow redirects and repeated form completion increasing the likelihood of customers abandoning purchases before payment is completed.

According to the company, cart abandonment rates in South Africa can reach as high as 83%, meaning many customers leave without completing transactions. It also noted that 3-D Secure authentication success rates among South African issuers remain around 80%, leaving some transactions unsuccessful during authentication.

“This is especially important in South Africa, where ecommerce continues to grow but checkout experiences have not always kept pace with customer expectations. Larger retailers have already familiarised customers with faster repeat-purchase flows, but many merchants still treat returning customers as if they are buying for the first time. One-click payments create the familiar, simple checkout experience people know from using platforms like Uber or grocery delivery apps.”

Operating as a neutral orchestration layer on top of merchants’ payment service provider (PSP) infrastructure, NjiaPay’s API coordinates multiple payment providers, routes transactions and helps improve payment performance.

The platform currently supports card payments, digital wallets and supported variable recurring payment methods, including Capitec Pay VRP.

“At NjiaPay, we view payments as a key driver of growth,” says Allback. “Our mission is to equip online businesses with the right tools to boost sales – starting with seamless, one-click payments.”
