Omantel Expands Regional Digital Footprint with Algeria Smart Water Partnership

OTEC, the digital arm of Omantel, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Algeria’s Water and Sanitation Company (SEAAL) to implement a pilot project for automated water meter reading, marking another step in Omantel’s regional expansion strategy.
The agreement was signed through Tadum, an OTEC subsidiary, in collaboration with Nama Water Services, and aims to deploy an Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) system and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) for water meters using LoRaWAN technology.
According to the companies, the pilot project is designed to enhance water management by enabling smarter, more efficient, and automated meter reading capabilities. The deployment of LoRaWAN technology is expected to improve the collection and management of water consumption data while supporting the modernization of utility infrastructure.
The memorandum of understanding was signed on the sidelines of the official visit of an Omani delegation to Algeria, led by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT).
Omantel said the partnership reinforces its strategy to expand its digital transformation services beyond Oman while creating new economic opportunities across the region. Through OTEC and its subsidiaries, the company continues to position itself as a provider of advanced digital technologies supporting smart infrastructure and public utility modernization.
The collaboration with SEAAL also reflects growing regional cooperation in deploying Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled solutions to improve operational efficiency and accelerate digital transformation in the utilities sector.
