Namibia and Deloitte Discuss AI Strategy and Digital Infrastructure Development
The discussions underscore Namibia's ongoing efforts to build a robust digital policy environment that supports innovation while ensuring emerging technologies are deployed responsibly and in line with national development priorities.
Namibia’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, has held discussions with a delegation from Deloitte & Touche Namibia on advancing the country’s digital transformation agenda, with a focus on artificial intelligence, broadband expansion, cybersecurity and digital infrastructure.
The meeting, held on 3 August 2026, covered a broad range of priority areas, including Trustworthy AI, Broadband for All, cybersecurity, data centres, AI factories, clean energy solutions and women in technology. The engagement forms part of the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen collaboration with industry stakeholders on emerging technologies and digital policy.
During the discussions, Deloitte, which advises on telecommunications, data centres and artificial intelligence while working with technology sector investors, shared insights from its global AI policy advisory frameworks. The delegation, led by Melanie Harrison, Country Leader of Deloitte & Touche Namibia, highlighted the rapid pace of technological advancement and stressed the need for policies and legislation to evolve alongside emerging technologies. The firm also expressed its commitment to supporting Namibia’s efforts to strengthen its artificial intelligence policy and legislative framework.
Minister Theofelus welcomed the engagement and said the Ministry has already begun consultations on Namibia’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy Framework, a process being led by the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST). She explained that the government has prioritised the development of a national AI strategy before introducing legislation, with the objective of establishing clear principles to guide the responsible development, deployment and governance of artificial intelligence as the technology continues to evolve.
