Ethio Telecom Promotes Fibre-Ready Buildings to Advance Ethiopia’s Digital Transformation
The workshop highlighted the growing importance of designing buildings to be fibre-ready. According to Ethio telecom, integrating fibre infrastructure into buildings can help address Wi-Fi capacity limitations, optimise network infrastructure, reduce operations and maintenance costs, and enable gigabit connectivity to individual rooms.
Ethio telecom has hosted a workshop focused on the role of fibre connectivity in modern buildings as Ethiopia continues to expand its digital infrastructure. The event, organised in partnership with The Urban Center, brought together industry experts, architects, civil engineers, real estate professionals and students to examine how Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) and Fibre-to-the-Room (FTTR) technologies can support the country’s digital transformation.
Tewodros Hailemeskel, Chief Fixed Network Officer at Ethio telecom, and Maheder Gebremedhin, Director of The Urban Center, shared insights during the workshop. Mersea Hailemariam, Fixed Network Planning and Engineering Director at Ethio telecom, also participated in discussions on the development and deployment of fibre-based connectivity in buildings.

The discussions also covered connectivity solutions designed to maintain services during power outages, alongside updates on Ethio telecom’s teleStream platform and its latest fixed internet services.
The workshop reflects a broader focus on integrating connectivity infrastructure into building design and construction as demand for high-speed internet continues to grow. By promoting FTTH- and FTTR-ready buildings, Ethio telecom and industry stakeholders aim to create infrastructure capable of supporting increasingly data-intensive digital services across Ethiopia.
