BoFiNet Completes P43m Fibre Project, Connects Three Botswana Villages
The project supports Botswana’s Economic Transformation Programme and BoFiNet’s mandate to provide telecommunications backbone infrastructure.
Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFiNet) has completed its 2025/26 Local Access Projects, extending high-speed fibre connectivity to Moshupa, Ramotswa/Taung and Thamaga as part of efforts to expand broadband access in underserved communities.
The P43 million project connected 191 customers across the three communities, comprising 68 in Moshupa, 66 in Ramotswa/Taung and 57 in Thamaga. The rollout also created 210 jobs for Batswana during the construction phase.
The project supports Botswana’s Economic Transformation Programme and BoFiNet’s mandate to provide telecommunications backbone infrastructure. By expanding fibre networks, the company aims to enable internet service providers to deliver more affordable and reliable connectivity while supporting greater competition and potentially lowering data costs.
BoFiNet said the new infrastructure will help connect businesses, government offices and households to opportunities including e-commerce, e-government and digital learning, supporting broader economic participation and the development of a knowledge-based economy.
The completed projects form part of BoFiNet’s wider push to achieve 100% national broadband coverage, with particular attention to communities that remain underserved.
