GIZ Malawi Trains 24 Entrepreneurs in AI and Digital Skills in Mzuzu
The initiative is supported by German Development Cooperation through the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union, and implemented by GIZ Malawi under the MIERA III and IYBA WE4A programmes.
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has brought its AI and digital skills programme to Mzuzu, Malawi, as part of efforts to help micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) adopt emerging technologies and strengthen their businesses.
The second AI & Digital Solutions Lab brought together 24 entrepreneurs from Nkhotakota, Rumphi, Karonga and Mzuzu at the Mzuzu University Tourism Incubation Centre.
The workshop was formally opened by Andreas Hartmann, Head of Cooperation at the German Embassy, highlighting Germany’s continued support for digital and AI-driven growth among businesses in Malawi.
Participants received practical training on the use of AI tools to improve areas including marketing, customer engagement and financial management. The programme places particular emphasis on supporting women-led and green businesses.
The Mzuzu session builds on an earlier AI and Digital Solutions Lab held in Lilongwe, where more than 70 women entrepreneurs gained practical AI skills and developed digital adaptation plans for their businesses.
The initiative is supported by German Development Cooperation through the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union, and implemented by GIZ Malawi under the MIERA III and IYBA WE4A programmes.
The next AI and Digital Solutions Lab is scheduled to take place in Blantyre on 19 August.
