NITDA and Budget Office Inaugurate Committee to Drive Nigeria’s Sovereign Cloud Initiative
NITDA said the establishment of the committee complements the broader governance and implementation arrangements for the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative and represents a step towards translating Nigeria’s sovereign cloud policy and regulatory architecture into coordinated, sustainable and investment-ready implementation.
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) , in collaboration with the Budget Office of the Federation (BOF), has inaugurated the Joint Technical Committee on the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative (JTC-NSCI) to address key expenditure, procurement, financing and investment considerations required for the effective implementation of the initiative.
The committee is chaired by the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Tanimu Yakubu, while NITDA Director-General and CEO, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, serves as Co-Chair.
Speaking at the inauguration, Inuwa highlighted the strategic importance of developing trusted domestic cloud and digital infrastructure capable of supporting government, regulated sectors and critical national workloads, while creating an enabling environment for private-sector investment and innovation.
He noted that implementing the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative requires more than technological and regulatory measures, stressing the need for alignment between Nigeria’s digital infrastructure priorities and fiscal, procurement, financing and investment mechanisms.
The JTC-NSCI will provide an inter-agency platform to examine issues including government ICT and cloud expenditure, the total cost of ownership, utilisation of existing infrastructure, budget and procurement alignment, infrastructure financing, investment mobilisation and the fiscal implications of cloud adoption.
The committee brings together key institutions responsible for public finance, procurement, investment, infrastructure, connectivity, power, cybersecurity, data governance and regulated sectors, with the aim of addressing these cross-cutting considerations in a coordinated manner.
NITDA said the establishment of the committee complements the broader governance and implementation arrangements for the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative and represents a step towards translating Nigeria’s sovereign cloud policy and regulatory architecture into coordinated, sustainable and investment-ready implementation.
