The licence allows Starlink to offer satellite internet connectivity to individuals, businesses and government entities, as well as customers in the maritime and aviation sectors. The move expands the range of connectivity options available in the UAE and marks another step in the country’s efforts to strengthen its digital infrastructure.

The United Arab Emirates’ Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has granted Starlink Satellite Communications Services  a 10-year Public Space Services Licence to provide broadband satellite internet services across the country.

The licence allows Starlink to offer satellite internet connectivity to individuals, businesses and government entities, as well as customers in the maritime and aviation sectors. The move expands the range of connectivity options available in the UAE and marks another step in the country’s efforts to strengthen its digital infrastructure.

TDRA Director General, Eng. Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, said the licensing of Starlink reflects the UAE’s commitment to adopting advanced technologies and creating a flexible regulatory environment that supports innovation and investment.

According to Al Mesmar, the move will broaden connectivity choices while reinforcing the UAE’s position as a regional and global hub for telecommunications and the digital economy.

The authority said the licence will contribute to greater diversity in the country’s telecommunications networks and enhance the resilience of its digital infrastructure. Satellite broadband is expected to provide an additional connectivity option for users across different sectors, including areas where conventional terrestrial networks may be less practical.

The licensing arrangement also highlights the UAE’s continued efforts to create a regulatory environment capable of accommodating emerging technologies and supporting the expansion of advanced digital services.

With the 10-year licence, Starlink will be able to develop its satellite broadband presence in the UAE while serving residential, commercial, government, maritime and aviation users. The move further strengthens the country’s drive to position itself as a global centre for telecommunications, technology and the digital economy.
