Through the initiative, M-PESA Ethiopia and Yenetta Code aim to encourage young developers to create innovative fintech solutions and support the growth of digital payments in Ethiopia.

M-PESA Ethiopia  has concluded a three-day CODE! Cashless Communities Hackathon Bootcamp in collaboration with Yenetta Code, bringing together more than 100 young developers to develop their skills in digital payments and financial technology.

The bootcamp featured hands-on workshops, live coding sessions and practical application programming interface (API) integration challenges using the M-PESA Developer Portal. The sessions were designed to equip participants with the technical skills needed to build digital payment solutions.

The programme forms part of preparations for the main hackathon scheduled for mid-October 2026. M-PESA Ethiopia said submitted project ideas will be evaluated, with 20 teams selected to advance to the semifinals. Five finalists will then proceed to the final stage to compete for the top prize.

The first-place team will receive ETB 200,000, while cash prizes will also be awarded to the second- and third-place teams.
