Discussions with the communications minister focused on accelerating investment in 5G infrastructure, improving quality of service and expanding home connectivity.

MTN Group  President and CEO Ralph Mupita has met senior government and financial officials in Ghana to discuss digital inclusion, 5G investment, financial literacy and the development of the country’s digital economy.

During his visit on Monday, Mupita held meetings with Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations Samuel Nartey George, and Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama. The engagements formed part of MTN Group’s efforts to strengthen relationships with stakeholders in key markets and align its investments with their priorities.

In his meeting with the Vice President, Mupita discussed MTN’s support for Ghana’s digital inclusion and digital sovereignty objectives, alongside financial and digital literacy. They also explored opportunities for MTN to support initiatives focused on women beyond the Girls in ICT programme, which MTN Ghana sponsors.

Discussions with the communications minister focused on accelerating investment in 5G infrastructure, improving quality of service and expanding home connectivity. The meeting also examined how terrestrial telecommunications networks could work alongside low-Earth-orbit satellite systems to improve network coverage.

At the Bank of Ghana, discussions centred on financial inclusion and ways to help small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) access financial solutions that support business growth. Other topics included financial literacy, responsible lending and cybersecurity, with an emphasis on cooperation to strengthen the digital financial ecosystem.

MTN said Ghana remains a key market for the Group and its largest fintech market. The company added that Mupita’s stakeholder engagements are intended to understand expectations in priority markets and strengthen working relationships to create shared value.
