MTN MoMo Partners With C-Care Uganda to Enable Digital Hospital Payments
The partnership is designed to simplify hospital payments by allowing patients to settle bills through their mobile phones without needing to queue at payment points or move between departments to obtain proof of payment.
MTN MoMo Uganda has partnered with C-Care Uganda’s IHK Hospital in Namuwongo to enable patients and caregivers to pay for healthcare services digitally using MTN MoMo.
The partnership is designed to simplify hospital payments by allowing patients to settle bills through their mobile phones without needing to queue at payment points or move between departments to obtain proof of payment.
Under the arrangement, patients receive their bills, provide their MTN mobile numbers and approve payment prompts on their phones. Payments are reflected immediately in the hospital’s system, with confirmation sent to the payer.
Speaking at the launch, MTN MoMo Chief Product Officer Jemima Kariuki-Njuguna said the company aims to integrate digital payments into everyday activities, including healthcare, shopping, travel and worship.
Dr Miriam Mutero-Musinga, General Manager of C-Care IHK, highlighted the importance of improving the patient experience, noting that simplifying payment processes forms part of efforts to deliver quality healthcare.
The partnership seeks to reduce administrative friction for patients, caregivers and healthcare providers by making transactions faster and providing immediate payment confirmation.
The initiative also extends MTN MoMo’s use beyond conventional consumer and merchant transactions into healthcare services, where digital payments can help streamline hospital processes and allow patients and their families to focus on receiving care.
