Zambia to Phase Out 2G Towers for Advanced 3G, 4G, and 5G Networks
Felix Mutati, the Minister of Technology & Science in the Government of Zambia, took to Facebook to declare a significant shift in the country’s communication infrastructure strategy. Going forward, the government will prohibit the installation of 2G communication towers nationwide. Instead, the focus will be on the deployment of Voice and Internet-efficient towers, specifically 3G, 4G, and eventually 5G towers across Zambia.
To achieve the ambitious 96% digital transformation agenda, the government plans to upgrade existing 2G towers, particularly those in rural areas, to more advanced technologies like 3G or 4G. This move aligns with the country’s commitment to advancing connectivity and technology accessibility, especially in remote regions.
