The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has reportedly confirmed that there are no plans to introduce a new subscription television service at this time. This statement according to reports came from Communications and Digital Technologies Minister, Solly Malatsi, in response to parliamentary questions raised by uMkhonto weSizwe party MP, Thembinkosi Siboniso Mjadu.

Minister Malatsi’s response reflects the current regulatory focus, which seemingly appears to prioritize other aspects of digital communication and broadcasting rather than the launch of additional subscription TV services. The question was part of a broader discussion on the future of broadcasting and digital technologies in South Africa.
