Namibia’s ICT Minister Advocates for Ethical AI and Digital Innovation

Namibia’s ICT Minister, Hon. Emma Theofelus, officially inaugurated the 8th National ICT Summit in Windhoek, with the theme “Building Resilience to ‘Adapt or Die’ in the Era of Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence.” During her keynote address at the Mercure Hotel, Theofelus emphasized the importance of embracing artificial intelligence (AI) while promoting its ethical use. She also urged citizens to be mindful of their digital footprints on social media.

The Minister highlighted that Namibia must adapt to rapid technological advancements to ensure that digital transformation benefits all sectors and promotes sustainable development. She pointed out that digital technologies are reshaping public service delivery, enhancing access to services such as e-governance, healthcare, and education. By leveraging digital tools, the government aims to improve accessibility, efficiency, and responsiveness to the needs of Namibians.

The summit’s long-term sponsors were also recognized for their unwavering support during a celebratory dinner, with Theofelus commending their partnership in fostering engagement and collaboration in the country’s ICT sector. The 8th edition of the summit continues to provide a crucial platform for addressing challenges and opportunities in Namibia’s digital landscape.
