African Media Leaders Convene in Gaborone for AUB’s 15th General Assembly
The African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) convened its 15th General Assembly from September 2 to 6, 2024, in Gaborone, Botswana. Under the theme “The Future of African Media Facing the Challenges of New Technologies and Climate Changes,” this significant event gathered high-level stakeholders from the media and broadcasting sector across the continent.
Chief Executives, officials, experts, academics, and content creators participated, alongside representatives from sister Unions and partners. The assembly delved into the evolving landscape of digital technologies in the audiovisual media sector, focusing on Africa’s role in metadata generation and content creation amid the rise of artificial intelligence. Discussions addressed the transformation of audiovisual professions and strategies to adapt to the digital needs of African audiences.
Additionally, the event emphasized the importance of regional and international cooperation in raising climate change awareness and engaging citizens. The General Assembly explored ways to enhance content sharing on the AUBVISION Platform, aiming to position it as a central news source for African countries.
