Ghana’s Vice President Launches CitizenApp to Streamline Access to Public Services

Ghana’s Vice President launched CitizenApp, a digital platform offering convenient access to public services, boosting efficiency and accessibility.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana announced on his X account that he launched the CitizenApp, an innovative digital platform, which consolidates public services, to enhance accessibility, efficiency and convenience for all citizens.

The CitizenApp, which featuring a unique identification system like the Ghanacard, has been designed to give citizens a lifetime digital experience, as the app can be used to access public services, such as registering the birth of a new-born baby, applying for a passport and drivers license, renewing NHIS card, registering businesses, filing of taxes, searching for jobs, changing of names and, in the unfortunate event of the death of a loved one, accessing death certificate.

Since 2017, the government has remained committed to building a strong digital foundation, through the provision of a biometric national identity card (Ghanacard), digital address system, mobile money interoperability to enhance financial inclusion, and digitalisation of essential public services. Building these digital foundation is essential to the transformation of a modern economy in this 4th Industrial Revolution. And the launch of the CitizenApp, further demonstrates our commitment to enhancing interactions between government and citizens, as well as giving citizens the best digital experience.
